DC proves that great things come in small packages

This past weekend (July 21st - 24th) 7 members of the DC MIST team proved that you don't have to have a big team to do well at MIST. All you have to have is a lot of dedication and great deal of hard work and enthusiasm. That's what this 7 member team went to Houston, TX to prove this past weekend.

While Atlanta was represented by over 110 students and Houston was represented by close to 100 students, DC was represented by 7 students from 3 different schools: Islamic Saudi Academy, JEB Stuart High School, and Dar Us Salaam. The 6 girls and 1 boy on the team had not known each other before. With the great leadership of their Head Coach, Br. Magdy Mansour, what has come to be known as the Dream Corps (DC) proved that dreams can certainly come true if you work hard at it.

The 7-member team particpated in 27 competitions. Each member won a trophy in at least one competition for a total of 10 trophies in various competitions:

  1. 2D Art, 1st place, Ilana Alazzeh
  2. 3D Art, 1st place, Sara El-Ashaal
  3. Fashion Design, 3rd place, Samirah Ali
  4. Knowledge Test, 2nd place, Aamina Shaikh
  5. Sister's Quran Memorization, 3rd place, Alah Hijazi
  6. Brothers Tajweed, 3rd place, Fahed Hijazi
  7. Children's Book, 2nd place, Ilana Alazzeh
  8. Research Project, 3rd place, Alah Hijazi
  9. Community Service Project, 2nd place, Mefruz Haque
  10. 3rd place overall Individual Winner, Ilana Alazzah
  11. 2nd place overall Team!

Not only that, but DC also managed to capture the 3rd place overall individual trophy (Ilana Alazzah from ISA) and we also won 2nd place overall team with 226 points, beating 27 other teams.

This truly shows that it doesnt' matter how big your team is. What really matters is how hard your team works and DC worked very hard. We are all very proud and honored to have each and every member of the DC National Team this year represent our region. It was our very first National tournament and our very first National DC team. All 7 members, their parents, and our Head Coach are true MIST Pioneers. They truly made history.

Please extend a congratulatory note to each of them and we hope to see you all at regionals in 2007 and again at Nationals which will be hosted during the summer here in DC inshallah.
