DC MIST Basketball Rules & Regulations:

  • As Muslims, we should strive to act in a manner that is pleasing to Allah. During the basketball tournament, un-Islamic behavior such as using foul language, un-sportsmanlike conduct, smoking, consuming alcohol/illegal drugs, etc. will NOT be tolerated.
  • All competitors participating in basketball MUST register in at least one other competition as well. Failure to do so will prevent the competitor from participating in the basketball tournament.
  • Up to 10 competitors per gender (10 boys, 10 girls) from each team can register for Basketball.
  • While you are at the basketball venue, you should adhere to the MIST organizers, coaches, and officials' directions.
  • When you are in play, you should:
    • Respect your teammates, opponents, coaches, and officials.
    • Follow the generally accepted rules of basketball (for details on basketball rules, please visit here)
  • DC MIST's "2 T's and you are out" rule: Any player or coach that commits 2 technical fouls during the course of a game will be DISQUALIFIED from the basketball tournament. Once a player or coach is disqualified, he/she will not be allowed to participate in the remainder of the basketball games.
    • Definition of a technical foul: un-sportsmanlike conduct, fighting, abusive language, and/or arguing excessively with an official. The officials have the right to issue 2 consecutive technical fouls and disqualify a player/coach, if they deem necessary.
  • When you are not in play:
    • You should either watch the games at hand or discuss strategies with your team and coaches quietly.
    • You should NOT distract, boo, jeer, or disrespect opponent teams.
  • Non-participating spectators are NOT allowed at the basketball tournament. Only participants, coaches, officials, and DC MIST organizers are allowed at the games. Parents/guardians/siblings/relatives/friends, etc. will have to leave the venue when the tournament is under way.
